A Taste of Hollywood in Langley

Fort Langley, with its beautiful period architecture and quaint village feel, is often home to movie shoots. Indeed, the Lower Mainland/BC is often referred to as “Hollywood North” because LA film makers come here looking for pristine locations and experienced, expert film people at reasonable prices.

So it’s a bit of a wonder that there aren’t more thrift shops like Abundant Treasures, 20201 – 56th Avenue, Langley BC (note, not in Fort Langley, but across the highway in Langley!)

This is a cute little, hole in the wall shop is filled with new and revived items from movie sets – primarily clothing and accessories, shoes and a few props.

Prices are more like consignment than they are like thrift (especially compared to Penny Pinchers, which is right next door) – but given that most of this is prop/wardrobe stuff, it’s higher quality and very gently used. The woman staffing the shop when we were there (my apologies, I’ve forgotten her name) was engaging and cheerful and willing to give us discounts.

I picked up this gorgeous pashmina scarf, which I’m using as a runner – it is brand new, no snags, no pilling, beautiful.

And this fantastic pork-pie hat – doesn’t this just scream “Honeymooners”?

My sister bought a fantastic canvas camera bag, with a Minolta SLR, several lenses and even a few rolls of film for just $40. Worth it for the bag alone and a portion of her purchase supports the local animal shelter.

The owner mentioned that she will be getting a shipment of items from MGM studios later this spring. The shop is new (they’ve been there a little over 4 months) and it seems their website is too (I called her this morning before posting to ensure that I had the correct address because the website had two different addresses listed. The one above is correct!)

It’s totally worth your while to check it out – especially since it’s so close to Penny Pinchers; you can hit both shops in one visit! Who knows, maybe you’ll own something worn by someone famous!

Anyone out there own something from Hollywood? would love to hear about it!

  1. I think it’s unfair that I had to read your post today. It’s too tempting! Now I am going to have to drive to Fort Langley when Project 333 ends 🙂

    • so sorry to create hardship for you! – but i hope you went to Langley and not Fort Langley for the shop! (The fort is where they do all the filming – it is a great place to visit but one thing my sister and i always say is that it needs a thrift shop. might just have to open one ourselves some day!)

  2. Oh cool. I would love to check that one out!

I recently thrifted some beautiful collector plates from 20th Century Fox corporation of Shirley Temple, still in the original boxes with the papers and still wrapped in plastic. I got them for .50 cents each at an estate sale. Bought two Shirley in the movie Heidi and Captain January. Kind of Hollywood?
