It was a beautiful day last Saturday when my sister and I wandered through the neighbourhood of Queens Park New Westminster. This is a part of the world where they actually understand the value of heritage homes and don’t tear them down to build something ugly. They also understand community. For 19 years now, they’ve held a community garage sale, always on Mother’s Day, to benefit charity – this year it was Canuck Place.
A local realtor provided a map of all the homes in the neighbourhood that included about 60 homes but there were more that joined the party on that day. Because we was going on to the Whitecaps game, we didn’t intend to pick up a lot of stuff and arrived later than we should have – a mistake we will not make next year!
Still, I picked up a few gems:
The real find was these comic books, the irony being that I had no idea what I was buying but Aaron was thrilled.
There is another community garage sale happening in Vancouver, Saturday June 20th in the Grandview area (love their motto: Sell your stuff. Meet your neighbours. Buy their stuff.)
Got any other community garage sale tips to share?
