Paraphernalia is defined as “miscellaneous articles” making it a great name for a newly opened used furniture shop in Abbotsford. Paraphernalia, the shop, is located on the corner of S Fraser Way and Hilltout and is owned by Mark and Fiona. They carry an eclectic mix of furniture and household goods.
This is not a charity shop but a for-profit business so if you’re looking for bargain-basement pricing, you won’t find it here – but you’re also not paying high-end antique shop prices either. They’re picky about what they bring in: no beds and very few upholstered pieces (these must be in excellent shape or very unique). When we visited last week, I saw lots of lovely dressers, cabinets, lamps, tables and collectibles. They have a few unique art pieces as well.
I like the way they’ve laid out the store – it’s easy to walk around and view things, which can be a challenge given the small space.
If I have a criticism it would be that they should take as much care with the interior of their goods as the exterior. Some of the dresser drawers I opened were quite dusty inside, one little desk was quite lovely but it looked like the bottom drawer wasn’t secure. That extra little attention to detail will help increase the value of each piece.
If you like them on Facebook, you’ll get an update on new things when they come in. If you’re looking for a unique piece for your home or an unusual gift for someone, it’s definitely worth checking out!
