There’s a new thrift gig in town (the town being Abbotsford) and, dear reader, I’m thinkin’ it could use our help.
Healing Grounds Thrift Store is located at 33498 Bevan Avenue ( in the same strip mall as the motor vehicle offices). The store supports Healing Grounds Youth Services that has residential programs and day services for youth and children. The store opened earlier in April and had only been open for 5 days when I visited.
Frankly I was surprised when I walked in because the story had very little to offer. It had a lovely bedroom set (new) for sale, three racks of clothing, a half dozen shelves that housed everything from household goods to children’s toys to books and DVDs. There was a little corner with a few odd antique curios. Being used to Abbotsford’s other thrift shops like MCC, Bibles for Missions, or Salvation Army whose shops are full to the rafters with stuff, it felt very odd to be in a shop so sparsely stocked. I’m going to chalk it up to inexperience.
Prices were fair and I picked up a brand new, store tag still on it, Chaps vest for my hubby, which he promptly put on and has worn a ton already.
The shop does accept donations, so that’s where you can help out and do take time to go and see them. It’s always good to support something that’s trying to do some good in the community.
